Lincoln Nebraska Art
The small southwestern Iowa town of Clarinda may not be the first place people think of when they see an internationally important work of art. Robert and Karen Duncan are well-known art collectors, but they have not forgotten their hometown. Years ago, they learned that a giant canvas had been completed, but desperately needed a buyer.
The Duncans fell head over heels in love with the artist Charley Friedemann and her team, the Friedemsanns. The gallery is currently showing the works of two associated artists in an exhibition entitled "On Earth. Nebraska native Su Harvey exhibits her painted vessels, while Willie Sapp shows ceramic designs with natural images. At 6 p.m., Clarinda Art Gallery Artistic Director Karen Duncan will give an overview of the show at Witherspoon Concert Hall.
Shea McCoy, a special choreographed work inspired by the work of one of the artists in "Art Lakes," was inspired by her experience as an artist in New York City to bring public art to Lincoln.
Most of us know Shea McCoy for her grass roots projects, including her work with the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and the National Park Service. But I feel rooted in Lincoln, where I see public art and sculptures I helped create every day. I knew my work was qualified for a Nebraska-centered program because it reminds me of life in agriculture and the countryside. She discovered her passion for turning found objects into art before she began her formal art training. From ceramics to oil canisters, her trademark is a ceramic oil can, but she is also an artist in residence at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Even the Nebraska State Capital building is full of art deco mosaics and architectural details. Her wall project shows the rich historical and urban areas around the state capital. Take a free guided tour and see murals on the walls of the Capitol, State Capitol Building and Lincoln City Hall.
At night the building turns into a luminous showpiece, and at night it is full of light and sound. Shakespeare is a great opportunity for budding young theorists with a great view of the State Capitol Building and the Nebraska State Capitol.
